After an extremely wet start to the day, we were fortunate to have dry weather for our 18 runners out enduring the cold to explore my home turf of Webheath. As a first-time organiser, the plan for the map was to place an abundance of controls close to the centre with no obvious ‘loop’ to them, but with lots of options through little alleys and paths for them to be chained together interesting ways. There were then three groupings of further out controls to test the faster runners – the NW and E groupings were obvious, but less obvious were the set of controls in the SW, which were grouped by virtue of the awkward road layout there, making it most efficient to chain them together.
Both Eloise Lee and Molly Browne were on top form besting the rest of the pack with an equal score of 540. Molly came closest to clearing the map, but ran 90 seconds over allowing Eloise to claim the top spot. Had Molly spotted the shortcut through the fence on the way to #23 it might have been a different story! Closely following for overall third, and first in the men’s competition, was Simon Lanckham who I think could have won outright had he not been lured into my trap of taking the field between #9 and #22.
Congratulations also goes out to locals Will Noyce and Alex Cogswell who were tempted out and both put in great efforts. Likewise, Clair and William Gibson are commended for cycling to the event and for (along with Eloise) being the only runners daring enough to brave Pitcheroak Woods!
A big thank you to all who turned up. I really enjoyed the process and hope you had a fun evening.

Ben
