Arley Arboretum

Arley Arboretum

Arley Arboretum is home to over 300 species of trees, it features Britain’s longest Laburnum
arch, it is a brand new HOC area, complete with a complex maze within which there will be a
number of controls. If you wish to enter the Arboretum for a walk after your run you will need
to pay the normal entrance fee

For those interested in the history of the venue, the arboretum dates back to around
1800 and is one of the oldest in the country. Arley House is a relatively new building
used as a wedding venue but stands roughly where a much larger Arley Castle stood
until 1962 – just the gatehouse tower remains which you passed when going from
controls 18 to 19 on leg one. Although Arley Castle was an early 19th century
creation, a significant part of it was what remained from the older Arley Hall which
dated back to 1450
