(Photos: Robert Lines) The British Long Distance Championships took place last Saturday at Carreg Goch in the Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly known as Brecon Beacons National Park). This wild and quite remote area, blessed with plenty of pits, depressions and rock features provided a suitable challenge and ‘varied weather’, with many competitors having to contend with a sudden hailstorm which punctuated the otherwise benign conditions. “After seven winter SMApp events, HOC’s Night Street League table is starting to become clear as the 10 event series provides six counting events for the NSL.   In the women’s competition, Karen Thompson has already scored 148 points out of a possible 150 and is on course to win the Open and Veteran’s trophies. With a desperately close battle amongst the top four clubs at Sutton Park, and only three to qualify, it was a tense wait for the official results to be published. A thirteen strong HOC contingent decided to spend last Saturday evening running around in the dark in Egypt Wood, Slough for the 2026 British Night Championships, hosted by Happy Herts. Congratulations are due to Seb Blackmore, for getting onto the podium in his first year as an M16 with an excellent 3rd place. “The winter SMApp series has just passed its half way mark with 20 runners braving the cold and sheeting rain to explore some very complex parts of Droitwich in the sixth event of the series.
