Not a bad turnout for an event put on at fairly short notice. I’d planned the course so that every other (ish) control on the first section was on or very near paths, with the others accessible without having to fight through vegetation (subject to route choice). I put them out wearing shorts and emerged fairly unscathed. One of the controls had its kite taken – luckily I’d grippled the more expensive bits and they were still there.

Control #23 was situated by a distinct oak tree which is a memorial to Black Country ultrarunner Ron Bentley – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Bentley.
