This league is designed to provide a chance for all Harlequins to compete in different age groups across all events where Members are representing HOC in a calendar year. There are three events to go (CompassSport Cup final, Burlish Top (Harlequins, WML) and Sutton Park (Octavian Droobers, WML)) but to spur you on here are the scores so far:
City of Birmingham Orienteering invite you to a Beginners Families and Schools Orienteering Event at Red House Park, Great Barr on Saturday 28th October 2023. Scroll down to read more or download a pdf here. Explore the park with a choice of four* courses, with family-friendly options for both complete beginners and improvers, plus a course for adult runners who are new to navigation. (*Unfortunately the planned green course, the longest and hardest originally on offer, is no longer viable)
…. Lana & Oscar Whitman, Simon Lanckham, Eloïse Lee, Chris McCartney and Karen Thomspon – all winners of their age categories in the West Midlands Urban league.
Harlequins are hosting the next West Midlands League event at Burlish Top and the Rifle Range on Sunday 19th November. This area now includes the nature reserve, a former golf course and a former WW1 Rifle Range. The mix of contrasting parts will present a real orienteering challenge. Scroll down for the full details or find them as a pdf here. The closing date for lower fees is 12th November but don’t delay, enter now through https://www.fabian4.co.uk/.
The results of October’s monthly Beginners, Families and Schools Event are available here. More information about the series can be found on the City of Birmingham Orienteering page.
Orienteering is very fortunate to benefit from a massive volunteer effort that keeps costs of entry much lower than they would be otherwise and thus makes the sport more affordable to a wider audience. However, there is an anecdotal concern that our volunteers are getting tired and that with an ageing membership, clubs are finding it increasingly difficult to continue to provide activities that they would like to put on. The Orienteering Foundation Sound familiar? Worth looking at in more…
City of Birmingham Orienteering and Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust invite you to a Beginners Families and Schools Orienteering Event at Banners Gate, Sutton Park on Saturday 30th September 2023. Scroll down to read more or download a pdf here.
Many thanks to today’s event officials Ian (Organiser), James (Planner) and Richard (Controller) – and of course all the other volunteers without whom these things just wouldn’t happen! We hope you all enjoyed it. Officials’ comments are linked as a pdf file or scroll down to read more. Results, Splits, and Splits by course, are now available, as are Routegadget and Splitsbrowser.
