Who’s who
This is not an exhaustive description of official roles; it describes the most significant aspects of jobs so that all members, whether on the committee or not, understand who is responsible for what.
Committee Members 2024/2025:
Chair | Peter Langmaid | Provide leadership and direction to the club. Chair meetings. Co-ordinate club activity. | |
Vice Chair | Ian Gamlen | Seek and appoint officials for events. Deputise for Chair as necessary. | |
Treasurer | David Aldridge | Manage club finances including bank and any deposit accounts. Produce annual accounts to be independently examined, approved by committee and presented to the club Annual General meeting. Advise committee on financial decisions. | |
General Secretary | Steve Blackmore | Minute committee and general meetings. Issue the agenda for meetings. Focal point for correspondence. | |
Membership Secretary | Ian Chafer | Process membership applications and maintain membership records. Maintain helper lists. Maintain e-mail list for the club. Distribute email to mailing list at member’s request. Ensure appropriate use of list. | |
Fixtures | James Thomas | Draw up the club’s fixture list and co-ordinate with regional and national fixtures secretaries. Register events with British Orienteering. Liaise with Vice-Chair to ensure that events have officials appointed. | |
Mapping | Paul Basher | Oversee club mapping programme and ensure that club maps are suitable for event use. Provide map / area input into fixtures programme. | |
Club Captain | Kerstin Mitchell | Enter teams for relays and CompassSport Cup/Trophy. Select teams. Encourage member participation in club competition (e.g. West Midland League). Engender competitive spirit. | |
WMOA Representative | John Leeson | Represent club at West Midlands Orienteering Association (WMOA) meetings four times a year and at the AGM. Facilitate communication between WMOA and HOC. | |
Welfare Officer | Corrie Blackmore | Provide a point of contact for members, particularly juniors and parents, to raise issues of a welfare nature. Point of contact with British Orienteering. See our Safeguarding page. |
