City of Birmingham Orienteering invite you to a Beginners Families and Schools Orienteering Event at Red House Park, Great Barr on Saturday 28th October 2023. Explore the park with a choice of four* courses, with family-friendly options for both complete beginners and improvers, plus a course for adult runners who are new to navigation. (*Unfortunately the planned green course, the longest and hardest originally on offer, is no longer viable)

Harlequins are hosting the next West Midlands League event at Burlish Top and the Rifle Range on Sunday 19th November. This area now includes the nature reserve, a former golf course and a former WW1 Rifle Range. The mix of contrasting parts will present a real orienteering challenge. Orienteering is very fortunate to benefit from a massive volunteer effort that keeps costs of entry much lower than they would be otherwise and thus makes the sport more affordable to a wider audience. However, there is an anecdotal concern that our volunteers are getting tired and that with an ageing membership, clubs are finding it increasingly difficult to continue to provide activities that they would like to put on. The 2023 Annual General Meeting will be held on the 19th October at the Somers Club, Halesowen, B62 0JH; 7.00pm for a prompt 7.30 start.  A draft agenda and minutes from the 2022 AGM and 2023 EGMs have been emailed to all members.

The West Midland Relays are being held on September 24th at Hednesford Camp on Cannock Chase. Details will be posted on the Walton Chaser’s website here, and there is a Routegadet for the area from 2018 here. Captain Kerstin will need your details (name, age class, si card number/hire) plus any strong views about which leg or class you would prefer to run. Information on the classes is here.
