An urban area with plenty of variety – everything from parks, formal private gardens, sports grounds to common land and urban streets. Scroll down to see a location map, map snippet, infromation from previous events and some photos. Events held in earlier years:

Lickey Hills

Lickey Hills

A Country Park very popular with Birmingham residents; good visitors centre with play equipment, toilets, cafe etc. Curently “owned” by COBOC but often “borrowed” by HOC for Local events. Can be very confusing; the combination of multiple paths, ditches and steep slopes with mixed woodland is tricky. The Northern part of the area (separated by a fast and dangerous road) can be used for small Local events and is known as Beacon Hill. Events held in earlier years:

Leasowes Park

Leasowes Park

Suitable for Local events. Mostly steep parkland, some grass covered earthworkings, areas of run/slow run woodland and a golf course. Some interesting stream valleys. Suffers in part from nettles and brambles in the summer. Events held in earlier years:

Kinver Edge

Kinver Edge

Often used for Regional as well as Local events. Steep sandstone escarpment with lots of crags – some of them famous. Flat and fast plateau above escarpment, interesting spur and valley terrain below. Mixture of open naturally seeded birch, open heath and run/slow run conifers. Few brambles but bracken is a problem June to October The views from ridge down onto birch woods are very nice on a spring evening, and the National Trust Rock Houses are fascinating to visit….

Himley Hall

Himley Hall

Open parkland with wooded hill on one side. Has a Permanent Orienteering Course; the map shows all the posts and has some suggested courses of varying length and difficulty. Only suitable for Local events unless combined with Baggeridge to make longer courses. It is a surprisingly tricky little area, with the fast and furious parland a complete contrast to the steep and intricate hillside.
